Books – Youssef Afifi:
The Al-Azhar International Center for Electronic Fatwa responded to criticisms of the late imam, Sheikh Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawi, after statements by the Minister of Culture, in which he considered Sheikh Shaarawi, “has many reservations”.
Al-Azhar stressed that the imam of preachers, Sheikh Al-Shaarawi, is an example of an enlightened moderate scholar.
Al-Azhar published the fatwa, through its account on the social network “Facebook”, the biography of the imam of preachers, Sheikh Al-Shaarawi, as it arrived:
His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawi was born on 15 April 1911 in Daqadous village, Mit Ghamr Center, Dakahlia Governorate, Arab Republic of Egypt.
He completed the memorization of the Noble Quran at the age of eleven and was awarded the primary certificate of Azhar in 1923 AD. He entered Al-Azhar secondary school and his interest in poetry and literature increased.
– After he got Al-Azhar Secondary School, his father insisted that he complete his studies in Al-Azhar, and indeed he graduated from Faculty of Arabic Language in 1940 AD
– Imam Al-Shaarawi has chosen to complete his studies in the Arabic language; Being his gateway to all legal sciences, as well as what the sheikh enjoyed in terms of mastery of the arts of the Arabic language and his faculties, such as grammar, morphology, beautiful poetry, rhetoric, fluency of language, and clarity of statement.
– Indeed, the Arabic language and its faculties were a way to interpret the Holy Quran, contemplate its verses and communicate its meanings to the Muslim masses in an easy, clear and interesting way. Until the imam became the imam of preachers and a milestone in the era of modern Islamic calling, and people began to wait for his weekly speeches in front of television screens, and through the transmission of the Holy Quran, and their consciences were tied to his hadiths and his thoughts on the book of Almighty God.
– Sheikh has honorable national positions against the occupation forces and successful efforts in refuting suspicions about Islam, the Quran and our teacher, the Messenger of God, and providing them with rational and logical answers through the media and field meetings with various segments of society, especially the youth.
– In every place the sheikh passed or in a position he held, he had great benefits and influence in it, in Egypt and abroad, and one of his most famous positions was sending a telegram to the King Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during his stay in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia opposing the transfer of the shrine of our master Ibrahim, peace be upon him, to expand its end around the honorable Kaaba; Supporting his opinion with legal evidence that this is not permissible.
– King Saud, may God have mercy on him, responded to the Sheikh’s speech, approved his opinion, prevented the shrine from being moved from its place, consulted him on some issues related to the expansion of the Holy Mosque in Mecca and followed his advice.
– One of the most important positions through which Sheikh Al-Shaarawi served the Islamic Appeal was the position of Director of the Office of His Eminence Grand Imam Hassan Mamoun, the former Sheikh of Al-Azhar in 1964 AD, Head of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Mission in Algeria in 1966 AD, and Minister of Awqaf and Al-Azhar Affairs in the Arab Republic of Egypt in 1976 AD, and was also a member of the Islamic Research Academy 1980 AD L ‘Arabic Language Academy and the Shura Council of the Arab Republic of Egypt, 1980 AD
– In addition to the many assignments he was offered and apologized for; Dedicated to the knowledge, advocacy and service of the needy.
– The imam of preachers, Sheikh Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawi, is an example of an enlightened and moderate scholar.
– Sheikh Al-Shaarawi has many scientific books, including: The Miracle of the Quran – Physical Evidence of God’s Existence – You Ask and Islam Answers – Islam and Contemporary Thought – Contemporary Issues – Critical Questions and Outspoken Answers.
After a long life in the reign of the enlightened and tolerant Islamic calling, and in the service of Islam and Muslims, the sheikh died at the age of eighty-seven, on 22 Safar 1419 AH, corresponding to June 17, 1998 AD.
And Dr. Abbas Shoman, the former representative of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, said that those who attack Sheikh Al-Shaarawi, like children, wanted to destroy the fruits of a tall palm tree, so their stones fell over their heads and the fruits continued to admire the spectators and purely for the eaters.
Representative Farida Al-Shobashi, Member of the House of Representatives, presented a briefing request to Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani, Minister of Culture, regarding the poor performance of the Ministry of Culture in spreading awareness with the means of awareness, and asked how the National Theater of the Ministry of Culture produces a play about Sheikh Al-Shaarawi, who bowed down (God, thank you) for the defeat of 67, and said with certainty that he was happy for the defeat of Egypt .. the homeland.
Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani, Minister of Culture, denied embodying the biography of Sheikh Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawi on the national stage during the upcoming month of Ramadan, considering that Sheikh Shaarawi “has many reservations”.
Al-Kilani added in a telephone interview with the “Cairo Talk” program that a proposal has been made to hold evenings about some religious figures during Ramadan, and that it is not a play, explaining that this proposal it was presented by the director of the National Theater, and so far it has not been presented to the committee, since the committee decides the works according to some criteria and conditions.
