“Hamburg, your pearl …”
This was the headline of BILD on Monday after video referee Günter Perl (51) repeatedly caused the anger of HSV.
In the Hamburg city duel at Millerntor (2: 3), referee Harm Osmers (36) missed a clear foul in the penalty area by Paulis Jakov Medic (22) on Bakery Jatta (23).
A clear mistake from Osmers. There is no doubt about that. Nevertheless, Perl did not intervene from the Cologne video cellar. And let the game continue when the score was 1: 1.
The matter now has an aftermath. Apparently, Perl is no longer scheduled by referee boss Lutz Michael Fröhlich (63) and Jochen Drees (51 / responsible for the video referees).
Perl should no longer be assigned to HSV games – solely as a protective measure – over a longer period of time.
In the past, Perl’s Hamburg residents felt that they were being treated unfairly on several occasions. At Schalke (March 2, 2016), in Frankfurt (May 5, 2018) and against Osnabrück (June 16, 2020).
After the final whistle at Millerntor, Hamburg’s sports director Jonas Boldt (39) complained massively to the referees around Osmers about the (wrong) decision.
HSV coach Tim Walter (45) criticized: “I think it is undisputed that it was a penalty. I think it’s doubtful that you don’t look at it. “
Apparently the referee officials see it the same way. And with consequences for Perl …
