Life expectancy in Bavaria has fallen slightly
In Bavaria, life expectancy has actually fallen slightly in recent years. However, there are statistical reasons for this. According to the State Office for Statistics based in Fürth, according to current data, a newborn boy in Bavaria can expect an average life expectancy of 78.9 years, and a newborn girl 83.5 years.
In the last so-called mortality table 2020/2022, the life expectancy of boys was 79.1 years and that of girls 83.6 years. The data basis of the Bavarian statistics authority is based on the general mortality table. This is a table separated by gender in which the age and gender-dependent probabilities of death of a group of people are listed. The general mortality table 2021/2023 is based on the results of the 2022 census, according to the State Office for Statistics. However, this has produced different population figures than the municipal citizen statistics that have been used so far. The current mortality table is therefore based on different calculation bases than the previous one.
Life expectancy in Bavaria has doubled since the start of the evaluation
According to the State Office, life expectancy in Bavaria has more than doubled since the first Bavarian mortality table in 1891/1900. A comparison with the general mortality table for 1986/1988, which was calculated on the basis of the 1987 census, shows that the life expectancy of newborns has also increased in the last 35 years.
