After Corona and cholera… Will Marburg reach Lebanon?

According to the “Akhbar Al-Youm” agency:

After Corona and cholera, here is the “Marburg” virus appearing to the public, so what is it and what are its symptoms?

“Marburg” is a disguised virus disguised as a common cold, which spreads rapidly and has a fatality rate of 90% according to the World Health Organization. It is similar to the “Ebola” virus in terms of symptoms.

And because the degree of its danger is high, the head of the Lebanese Medical Social Association and the representative of the International Middle Eastern European Medical Association in Lebanon, Professor Raif Reda, warned of it, saying that it is currently spreading in Africa, especially Guinea, which has caused several deaths and injuries, as well as in Cameroon and elsewhere.

And Reda explained through the “Akhbar Al-Youm” agency, “The incubation period ranges from several days to weeks. It begins with a high fever, headache, severe muscle aches, vomiting and vomiting, then enters the immune cells strongly and destroys them, causing bleeding in the openings of the body: the eye, nose, ear, and mouth.” And others, and he gives internal and external bleeding, so the patient loses body fluids and blood and becomes severely dehydrated, fatigued and tired, and remains lying in bed and turns into a frightening form like a ghost, in addition to his need to enter the hospital in an emergency case to compensate for the lost fluids and blood to survive, with a reminder that cases Death occurs within the nine days from the onset of injury and neglect.

And about how it is transmitted, he explained that “it is transmitted from animals, especially bats and some monkeys, to humans, and from an infected person to a healthy person, through scratches, wounds, feces, urine, the patient’s body fluids, and oral and anal sex.” injury.

Reda indicated that, to date, there is no vaccine or treatment for it, so the World Health Organization fears that it could turn into an epidemic.

He concluded: “Lebanon does not have the ability, in these health and economic conditions, to bear the dangerous consequences of Marburg. Therefore, and to prevent its spread, those concerned must strictly control the borders, especially the airport, and ensure the health of those coming, especially from Africa.”
