The SG Barockstadt remains unbeaten in the Regionalliga Südwest: At Göppinger SV, the SGB drew 1:1 (0:1) after an early deficit.
After the resignation of head coach Sedat Gören, from whom the SGB parted ways by mutual consent on Tuesday, interim coach Yasin Kocatepe did not surprise anyone with his starting eleven. Not even remotely, because the 32-year-old sent out the eleven that celebrated its first win of the season the previous week with a 2-1 victory against Astoria Walldorf. Kocatepe also did not change the usual 4-1-4-1 formation. Hosts Göppingen were different: long-time coach Gianni Coveli made three changes and played in a classic 4-2-3-1.
SG Barockstadt: After coach’s departure, a point win in Göppingen
In the end, the draw was a morale point. The best example: in the 86th minute, winger Marius Köhl sprinted across half the pitch in tropical heat and was almost rewarded with the winning goal after a huge faux pas by Göppingen goalkeeper Matthias Layer. He then knelt on the pitch and vomited until there really seemed to be no fluid left in his body. Köhl was a prime example of the self-sacrificing fight in a game that was not complicated by the change of coach.
Instead, after exactly 46 seconds, the cold shower came in the form of an early deficit. Göppingen was able to shift the play from the left to the right offensive side without being disturbed, where Mohamed Baroudi set up goalscorer Adrian Freiwald. For the sports club, still without a win, the early goal seemed liberating. Left winger Luca Piljek in particular was always involved in dangerous moves. But for Piljek in particular, he was good around the penalty area, but too playful in the box. The away fans only had to hold their breath twice. Once when Piljek missed from a tight angle (29th minute), and once when substitute Noah Lulic appeared free in front of Jannik Horz, who made a brilliant save (77th minute).
Barockstadt had shaken off the deficit by the middle of the first half at the latest and – often initiated by the playful Leon Pomnitz – also had their first chances to equalize. Tim Korzuschek shot over (32nd minute), Nils Fischer missed (35th minute). In addition, referee Mika Forster denied the visitors a clear penalty just before the break when Korzuschek was run over in a completely impetuous manner. So it was deserved that Fischer equalized immediately after the restart after a good ball relay down the right side (48th minute). That was how it stayed, even though both teams invested a lot going forward, wanted to win at all costs, but were not decisive enough in the final third.
