Schmedes came to Osnabrück in December 2017 and initially prevented relegation from the 3rd division with the Lila-Whites together with coach Daniel Thioune. A year later, VfL was completely surprisingly promoted to the second division, where the duo Schmedes / Thioune managed to stay up in the 2019/20 season despite modest financial means. This year VfL got down again despite a good start to the season.

“I didn’t make the decision easy for myself“said Schmedes.”How it will go on for me personally is open. Of course I will devote myself to a new task, when that will be the case and what it will look like remains to be seen“, said Schmedes, who was most recently traded as sports director at Hannover 96.
