Dr. Muhammad Awad Tajuddin, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Preventive Affairs, denied the validity of an audio message circulating on social media sites, especially the “WhatsApp” application, which included advice not to obtain a seasonal flu vaccine.
The president’s advisor said, in exclusive statements to “Masrawy,” today, Saturday, that “this message circulated is absolutely incorrect, and by way of what we call electronic flies.
Tajuddin explained that the audio clip contained false information and raised concern among citizens, pointing to the importance of obtaining the seasonal flu vaccine, especially this year in light of the spread of the new Corona virus, “Covid 19”.
The Ministry of Health and Population had started providing the vaccine for seasonal influenza at the headquarters of the Holding Company for Biological Preparations and Vaccines “Vacsera”, in Agouza, and its branches in the governorates.
The available vaccine is the quadruple vaccine, and it is given to people from the age of 3 years, for 170 pounds.
Dr. Mohamed Abdel Fattah, head of the Central Administration for Preventive Affairs at the Ministry of Health, said that most respiratory diseases in the winter season originate from influenza, which reduces immunity and allows any virus to enter the body.
In televised statements, he pointed out the need for several groups to primarily obtain the vaccine, and they are: those who are exposed to congregations and those who face the burden of respiratory diseases from doctors, pregnant women and those suffering from respiratory diseases, as well as those who have tried taking the vaccine and become hypersensitive to it, and those who suffer from egg allergy and Suffer from quadriplegic syndrome.
He stated that the most appropriate time to obtain the vaccine is before the onset of winter, noting that whoever is currently receiving it will have immunity after two weeks.
In turn, Dr. Ashraf Oqba, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Immunology at Ain Shams University, said that the vaccine completely protects against infection with influenza, and is not harmful to people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, pressure and the “C” virus.
Oqba explained in statements to “Masrawy” that the vaccine is harmful to people with diseases that are more prone to bleeding, such as leukemia patients, or those suffering from “egg allergy”, warning against giving the vaccine to children under two years old.
