The reception of the ambassador would be seen as a victory by the Taliban authorities. The Taliban government remains largely isolated internationally and is not recognized by the United Nations (UN), in part because it denies girls access to secondary education.

“The world recognizes the challenges Afghanistan has faced in recent years,” a UAE official said in a statement sent to AFP on Thursday evening.

“The decision to accept the credentials of the Afghan ambassador reaffirms our determination to contribute to building bridges to help the Afghan people,” he said.

UAE Government plans to “provide humanitarian aid through development and reconstruction projects and support efforts towards de-escalation and regional stability,” the UAE official said in the statement.
