After China… the UAE will get the credentials of the Afghan ambassador

Cable/Anatolia

On Wednesday, the UAE received a copy of the credentials of Badr al-Din Haqqani, the ambassador of the Afghan interim government to Abu Dhabi.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Saif Abdullah Al Shamsi, Deputy Secretary of Protocol Affairs, received a copy of the Afghan ambassador’s credentials.

What is surprising in the statement is that Abu Dhabi uses the term “Islamic Republic of Afghanistan” instead of “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” which the current government in Kabul uses.

In this context, a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government of Afghanistan indicated that the relationship between the two countries will be further strengthened with this appointment.

It should be noted that Haqqani was previously the Chief of Affairs of the Afghan Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

It should also be noted that the UAE has not yet officially recognized the interim government of Afghanistan.

On June 4 last year, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani in the capital, Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed “strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and ways to develop them in a way that fulfills common interests and contributes to the stability of the region.”

On August 16, the Emirati president visited the head of the interim government of Afghanistan, Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, who was being treated in a hospital in the Emirates.

On September 13, 2023, the new Chinese ambassador to Kabul, Cao Xing, presented his credentials to the Prime Minister of the interim government of Afghanistan, Muhammad Hassan Akhund, as the first ambassador to take office with official recognition of the interim government.

Immediately afterwards, Bilal Karimi, who was appointed by the Afghan government as an ambassador, officially began his duties in Beijing.

In a statement released last week regarding Uzbek Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov’s visit to Kabul, the Afghan administration said that Aripov expressed his country’s readiness to accept the new Afghan ambassador.
