A baby was killed in an accident on the Oude Bredasebaan in Chaam on Saturday evening. Earlier in the day, the accident killed a four-year-old child. A third child and the mother were seriously injured. The car left the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree.
The accident happened just before 5 a.m. Several ambulances and the fire brigade came to the scene of the accident. Two air ambulances were also called in. Rescuers tried to resuscitate the four-year-old child, but the child died on the spot. The second child, less than a year old, later died in hospital. All occupants were related to each other.
Accident investigation
It is not clear what caused the car to leave the road. The accident happened around 5 a.m. Police traffic specialists are investigating the cause of the accident. “To the best of our knowledge, it was a single-vehicle accident, with no other vehicle involved,” said a police spokesman.
