The commander-in-chief of the Polish police, Jaroslav Chimchik, said on Saturday that the explosion in his office last week was caused by a grenade launcher, revealing that he had received two of this weapon as gifts from Ukraine.
“While he was moving the two used grenade launchers, which were gifts from the Ukrainians, an explosion occurred,” Simsek said in a statement to the media.
Interestingly, the Polish Interior Ministry announced two days ago that a gift received by the country’s police commander-in-chief, Jaroslav Chimchik, during his recent visit to Ukraine, It exploded at the police headquarters in Warsawresulting in minor injuries to him and a civilian employee.
Media reports quoted a source from a Polish delegation that visited Ukraine as saying that Chimchik received the two launchers as a gift from local officials during his visit to the police and state emergency service in Ukraine.
Officials assured the Polish delegation that “the launchers had been unloaded” and the delegation drove them to Warsaw before leaving them in the back room of Szymczyk’s office, the source said.
Şimsek has been criticized over the incident, with Polish media quoting commentators with security experience as saying military equipment should not be flown into Poland from outside the European Union or brought into an office.
