Senior Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Ajay Rai has symbolically dedicated his home in Varanasi to former party chief Rahul Gandhi, following Gandhi’s receipt of a notice from the Lok Sabha Secretariat to vacate his official bungalow in Delhi. Gandhi, who was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member after conviction in a criminal defamation case, replied on Tuesday that he would abide by the notice. Rai later put up a board at his home reading “Mera ghar Shri Rahul Gandhi ka ghar” (my home is Shri Rahul Gandhi’s home), saying that a campaign in support of Gandhi had been started in the entire Prayagraj region. State Congress spokesperson Ashok Singh said Gandhi had made “a home in people’s heart”. Gandhi has been living in the Tughlaq Lane bungalow since 2005, but has been asked to vacate it by 22 April. The UP Congress has criticised the move, with Rai stating, “the houses of of crores of party workers across the country are that of Rahul Gandhi”.
