After bankruptcy: 40 employees in Rahden will probably be given notice at the end of the year: Glas-Metall before the closure – Rahden

On Monday there was a works meeting at which the company’s employees were announced their resignation at the end of the year. “We planned to completely reorganize the company through an insolvency plan. It now looks like the company can only continue to run until the end of the year due to the current order situation, ”said the lawyer.

“My optimism is slowly waning”

“There are still talks about a takeover by an investor, but my optimism is slowly waning,” said the insolvency administrator. Corona is certainly a factor in the poor order situation. “In general, however, it does not look rosy economically and it is also an extremely bad time for a takeover,” noted the lawyer. In addition, proven workforce from Glas-Metall has meanwhile migrated to competitors. Many customers are insecure and would hardly invest, he described other reasons for the bankruptcy.

“Actually, an insolvency rate of one percent was calculated, which should be paid out to the creditors. However, this cannot currently be complied with. All employees have been announced the termination on December 31st. This affects around 40 people, ”said Streitboerger. As an insolvency administrator, he could no longer justify “that more money is being burned here”.

As a reminder: Glas-Metall took over the insolvent competitor “Siedenburger Gewächshausbau” a few years ago. The plan was to continue the special buildings for DIY megastores with garden centers in steel and glass. In addition, Glas-Metall wanted to get involved in the manufacture and construction of electric car charging stations and expand this supposedly lucrative business area.

Invested a short time ago

Some time ago, another area was purchased in the West industrial estate and the construction of production halls began. For this purpose, a completely new administration building should have been built, these were the ambitious plans for Rahden. The company’s activities should be bundled there.

But things turned out differently: Glas-Metall became insolvent. The new building plans were overturned. In the meantime, the company Heinzig (metal construction) has bought the property as well as the unfinished industrial buildings and wants to settle there. The move is planned for the end of 2021 “If everything goes well,” said managing director Mario Heinzig. “We’re already working on the conversion. The insolvency of Glas-Metall no longer has any impact on our project, ”he said on Tuesday when asked.

Moving during bankruptcy

During the ongoing insolvency proceedings, Glas-Metall moved back into the original company premises on Lemförder Straße in Sielhorst. The rented company premises on the street Auf der Welle in Rahden have been given up – according to the insolvency administrator.

Mayor Dr. On Tuesday, Bert Honsel was not yet aware of the closure of the company at the end of the year. “If that is the case, I am of course very sorry that this long-established Sielhorster company is closing. I hope that the employees will quickly find a new job in Rahden or the surrounding area, ”he told this newspaper.

A COMMENT by Michael Nichau:

Now it is out. There is only a minimal chance that the traditional Rahden company Glas-Metall may still be taken over by an investor. Otherwise it will end at the end of the year and 40 employees from Rahden and the surrounding area will lose their jobs.

Did the company rely on e-car charging technology too early? Allegedly, so the management says, were themselves after at the beginning of the insolvency proceedings the order books for the traditional garden center hall sector were full. Perhaps the plans for the new buildings in the Rahden industrial park were too big.

The effect is clear: 40 more unemployed in Rahden. That probably didn’t have to be.
