After Almost a Year, Suspect of Murdering Dominican Mother Arrested in Queens – NBC New York

After almost a year, authorities arrested the suspect in the murder of his mother, a 78-year-old Dominican woman, in Queens, the New York City Police announced.

Osvaldo Díaz, 45, was charged with murder and illegal possession of a weapon.

The crime occurred on February 24, 2021, around 7:50 pm, inside the residence located at 218-44 Hillside AvenueNew York City Police said.

The woman, identified as Maria Diaz, 78, was found unconscious with a “severe” laceration to her head in a second-floor room, police said. Apparently it was the woman’s daughter who first saw her when she went to the residence after not having heard from her for a while, police said.

Paramedics declared the elderly woman dead at the scene.

Dias allegedly stabbed the victim and then fled. According to police sources, a knife was found at the scene.

The case remains under investigation.
