If no other British channel picks up, the Australian neighbors will no longer be seen in the UK after 36 years. What’s more, since Channel 5 provided most of the finances, production of the soap is in danger of coming to a complete end. The Australians are now frantically searching for a new partner. For the time being, recordings are still planned until June.
“Neighbours” was first broadcast in Australia on March 18, 1985 and went on to become a worldwide success. For many actors – including Kylie Minogue – the soap was a springboard for their careers. The series was especially popular with us in the 80s and 90s, when the episodes were also broadcast in prime time. “Neighbors” could be seen for years on One, last year the series moved to VTM 2.
