a team of scientists reported this Thursday in the magazine Science the discovery of what may be the oldest known human footprints in North America. The article’s authors estimate that these marks found in what is now White Sands National Park are between 21,000 and 23,000 years old during the Last Glacial Maximum. The findings indicate that the humans were present in southern North America about seven thousand years earlier than previously thought.
