The Köpenicker had reached the round of the best 16 with a 3-1 win after extra time at third division Waldhof Mannheim. Hertha had progressed a round with a 3-1 win at the regional league team Preußen Münster.

“It’s not a long journey, but unfortunately not a home game”, said Union manager Oliver Ruhnert in a first reaction. “Surely a lot of people will be looking forward to a derby and so we will approach the game like any other and try to get through one round.”

Hertha’s trainer Pal Dardai sounded a little more euphoric. “A dream lot and a holiday for Berlin. That would have been a nice final too. We will do everything we can to ensure that this is a special evening for all Herthaers,” he said.

“A great lot for our city! We’re really looking forward to the game against Union, but we also know about its quality. With our fans behind us, we want to make it to the quarter-finals!” added sports director Arne Friedrich.
