Franco Colapintothe sensation of Formula 1, surprised this week with a video that went viral, of an interview he gave at the beginning of the year, in which he assured that he did not have parking qualities and that he even avoided driving on the street. However, given the wave of comments he received, the 21-year-old Argentine pilot came out to clarify what his current situation is like with a video as proof.
This week, in the run-up to the United States Grand Prix that will take place on October 20, Colapinto went viral on social media with an unexpected statement. One of the panelists of the youth program Loud Voice (TV Pública) asked him if he drove after a race and the Argentine could not hide his embarrassment. “Don’t you know how to park?” asked the driver Cata De Elía, to which Colapinto responded: “A disaster. I’m going forward, I’m not going back. Forget it, I’m a disaster. Too bad, I don’t know how to park”.
Likewise, he referred to his way of handling himself in each place: “I don’t actually drive. I don’t like driving on the street. I ask that they take me. I only drive in the simulator and nothing more in the race car. Here (Buenos Aires) I do drive because I have to move from one place to the other, but there (Europe) I don’t. I drive with Uber.”
His words were quickly replicated on different social networks and media, although experts in the field know that he is not the first pilot to avoid driving. Both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen publicly stated that they avoid driving in the city and prefer to have drivers.
However, given the controversy generated by his old statement, the man from Pilar shared a video showing how he parked his vehicle in a narrow space, delimited by another car and the tables of a restaurant. “The video that was broadcast is old, I already learned how to park,” he introduced and then explained: “Four months ago in Imola (Italy) I established myself as a better parker than a pilot”.
The video surprised Formula 1 fans with the level of precision Franco had in parking the vehicle. “Franco says he doesn’t know how to park, but he does these things”; “The crazy guy is happy to park the car and doesn’t realize that he’s driving an F1 for 3 bucks”; and “Is it just me, or is it physically impossible to get the car in there, unless you do no less than 20 maneuvers?” were some of the comments. But the big question that many asked, and that the man from Pilar did not answer, is how he managed to get the car out of such a narrow space.
Because of that fun back and forth that he has on social networks, Colapinto conquered thousands of people who now joined in to watch the grand prizes that complete the remainder of the season of the highest automobile category. It should be noted that the Williams Racing team is preparing for what will be the new challenge for the Argentine: the United States Grand Prixwhere the young man will seek to make another great performance that will help him settle permanently in Formula 1.
