There were a lot of changes in the world of video games at the start of the year. Following Microsoft’s announcement of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard two weeks ago, Sony announced this week its acquisition of Bungie, the studio behind the Halo and Destiny franchises.
This news has sparked a lot of debate and it looks like we are just at the start of the surprise for the year.
On the way to a great new acquisition?
According to the usually very knowledgeable Jeff Grubb, another major takeover is imminent. In the show’s final episode, which airs on his YouTube channel, Jeff Grubb and Mike Minotti discuss recent acquisitions, and in particular Sony’s recently featured Bungie.
Asked if he knew which studio might be next on the list, Jeff Grubb started off by saying he had heard things he couldn’t talk about. That this was a “massive buy” and that recent events suggest that anything is possible.
It’s Take-Two, it’s Hazelight… or Capcom?
He then uses the phrase “It Takes Two For Tango” to illustrate his point, but that shouldn’t be seen as a tease about Take-Two or studio Hazelight when he appears at a tweet.
Internet users have discovered that one of Resident Evil 5’s successes was called “It Takes Two For Tango” and are now speculating about a takeover by Capcom. We know that Jeff Grubb is generally well acquainted with Microsoft’s actions, but we still don’t know if it’s a US company this time around.
We won’t know much more about Jeff Grubb who won’t provide much more information except that the environment is more conducive to acquisitions than ever before and that a certain craze will last until the end of the year.
