After a week of heat records, heavy showers are on the way

Two weather records have been set in De Bilt: it was the hottest week ever measured with an average maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees. And for the eighth day in a row the mercury rose above 30 degrees.

Yesterday the old record of six days of tropical heat in De Bilt was already adjusted to seven tropical days. The old record dates from 1941 and 1975. “Records regularly fall these days,” says meteorologist and NOS weatherman Gerrit Hiemstra.

Today the mercury rose above 31 degrees at around 3.30 pm at the official weather station in De Bilt. An hour earlier we were still a few tenths away from the tropical record: “It was to be expected that we would reach the eighth tropical day in a row,” says Hiemstra.

Cooling down by showers

The weather records seem to be over now. There are now heavy showers coming. Local with thunderstorms, a lot of rain in a short time, heavy gusts of wind and hailstones. Until then it will be partly cloudy and damp.
