After a record game against Rhein Fire: Hamburg Sea Devils will also be in the Volksparkstadion in 2024

It was one of the highlights of the past season in the European League of Football (ELF): On June 11th, the Hamburg Sea Devils welcomed Rhein Fire to the Volksparkstadion in the best weather in front of 32,500 spectators (final score: 27:22 for Fire). This set a new attendance record, which the Hamburg team now wants to break: they will play another home game in the arena in 2024.

“This is great news. The Volksparkstadion offers a perfect stage for the ELF. Our sport has impressively proven that it is big enough for the largest stadiums,” said league commissioner Patrick Esume: “I think that many of the fans who watched the Sea Devils’ game against Rhein Fire will be there again experienced last June.”

Who the opponent will be is still unknown; The ELF has yet to announce the exact game plan. But it is possible and understandable that it will be Rhein Fire again, as you need a spectator magnet on the other side to fill the stadium – and there is none bigger than Fire.

Of course, Hamburg’s plan is to break its own record again and expand it. The earliest it could be surpassed again is the final in Gelsenkirchen in September.

However, the date that has already been set could cause problems: the game will take place on July 14th at 4:25 p.m. The final of the European Football Championship will take place in Berlin on the same evening. Even if the German team isn’t there, it could stop some people from going to the Volksparkstadion and watching a football game beforehand. But those responsible will have thought something of it and taken this fact into account.

Tickets for the game can already be purchased now. So away fans will have to speculate whether their team will be the Sea Devils’ opponents – or wait and see.
