After a new solo Hirschi still has a stage victory in the Tour

The Swiss Marc Hirschi managed to win a stage in the Tour de France four days after his woefully failed solo of more than ninety kilometers. Hirschi (22) won the longest stage of this year’s Tour, covering 218 kilometers. He arrived alone in Sarran after a solo of 28 kilometers.

Last Sunday, Hirschi single-handedly crossed several Pyrenean cols. In the final he was chased by the favorites for the overall victory, who charged him two kilometers before the finish. In the sprint Hirschi finished third in Laruns, but he was very disappointed.

Attack on the toughest climb

The twelfth Tour stage was hardly flat and the final in particular had plenty of climbs and descents. On the toughest climb of the day, the Suc au May (second category), the Sunweb rider left his fellow attackers behind and embarked on a new solo that crowned him with his first victory with the pros.

The favorites for the overall victory left each other in peace, they can start on Friday with a tough stage through the Massif Central. The yellow jersey will therefore remain on Primoz Roglic’s shoulders.
