After a long break due to his knees, Del Potro plans to return to tennis next year

Argentine tennis player Juan Martín del Potro plans to return to the courts next season. The 2009 US Open winner has not played for over two years due to protracted knee problems, with which he underwent three operations.

Del Potro, 32, underwent his last surgery in March this year, and had to undergo several wrist surgeries in the past. Nevertheless, the former third player in the world, who is now in the eighth hundred, believes in a successful return.

“I like challenges. And it doesn’t matter if it’s tennis or something else. And this is going to be the most challenging match of my career because I’m struggling with a lot of pain, but I’m not giving up,” Del Potro told ESPN during an ongoing US Open.

In Flushing Meadows, where he played the final in 2018, he has now trained with former world number one John McEnroe. “I’m glad to be back in my favorite place. I feel good and maybe I’ll be here again next year as a court player,” he added.
