World champion Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx-Protime) ended her spring with a 38th place in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, in a group two minutes behind winner Grace Brown. Afterwards she spoke of a “good first time”, even though she said she felt the consequences of a long pre-season.
Kopecky made her debut in Liège on Sunday and could look back with satisfaction on her first time at ‘La Doyenne’. “In itself it was a positive experience. But I fell just a little short on the climb of the Roche-aux-Faucons. I think I should be able to survive that one with fresher legs. In any case, it is a tough slope for me, but I think I can go further with fresher legs. Yes, I think winning here is within my capabilities.”
After a long preseason and victories in Paris-Roubaix and the Strade Bianche, Kopecky has now disappeared from competition for a month. “I am very happy with my spring. With the results, and with the rainbow jersey that I was able to show so much. We have learned a few things here and there. I think I’ll do something different next year. How? We will see that next year.”
