Bērzvads says the awards this time will be given for performances over a three-year period, honoring the best records and artists of 2020, 2021 and 2022.
“We last invited musicians and publishers to submit recordings of heavy music for evaluation at the end of 2020, but although the performance was withdrawn at that time, due to the introduction of a temporary ban on public events, the awards were not These atrocities continued into the upcoming winter season, so the collection of entries for 2021 was not started at all. As applications for 2020 have already been sent, the organizers of the Latvian Metal Music of the Year award invite Latvian heavy music bands and publishers to submit their recordings made in 2021 and 2022 in album or mini-album (EP ). All heavy music records released during this period – metal, hard rock, post-rock and post-metal, as well as all their sub-genres and hybrids – are welcome.
Applications must be submitted by January 15, 2023 (inclusive) to the email address [email protected]. The application must include a link to a website or streaming service where a digital version of the recording is available, as well as the release year of the recording. As before, the winners will be determined by a judging panel and an internet vote. This time, so that voters don’t get confused when faced with three years of accumulated material, the jury will select the five best works for each evaluated year, which will be submitted to an Internet vote.
The start of online voting will be announced on January 23, but the awards ceremony itself will take place on February 10 at the “Black Friday” club. The groups joining the event with their participation on stage will be announced later, informs Bērzvads.
This year, the Metal Music of the Year award will be presented in Latvia for the twelfth time. Its initiators are associations “Sword and Blade” and representatives of the music club “Black Friday”, which has been organizing metal music events since 1996.
