The composition includes a patriotic Ukrainian song performed by Hlivnuk from a clip by The singer recorded at the Hagia Sophia in Kiev and posted on social media.
Hlivnuk’s video was “a powerful moment that made me want to express it in music,” said Gilmore, who performed with BoomBox in London in 2015.
When Russia invaded Ukraine, Hlivnuk stopped his tour of the United States, returned to Ukraine, and joined the territorial defense unit.
Gilmore has spoken to Hlivnuk, who has suffered a shrapnel injury and is currently recovering in hospital.
“I played a little bit of the song for him on the phone, and he gave me his blessing. We both hope to be able to do something together in the future, ”said Gilmore.
The song will be released on Friday, and all proceeds will be donated to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund.
Pink Floyd was formed in the mid-1960s, and the band’s last album, The Division Bell, was released in 1994.
