STOCKHOLM | After 70 years of existence, IKEA will cease publication of its famous paper catalog, published each year in tens of millions of copies around the world, announced Monday the Swedish furniture giant.
“Consumer behavior has changed and fewer people read the IKEA catalog than a few years ago. Inter IKEA Systems, IKEA’s global franchisor, has therefore taken the moving but rational decision to respectfully end the IKEA catalog career, ”the company wrote in a statement.
The catalog dated 2021, but published since the summer of 2020, “will be the last to be distributed”, confirmed to AFP a spokesperson for Inter IKEA, Jakob Holmström.
Launched in Sweden in 1951 by IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad, the catalog, one of the most printed documents in the world, reached its record publication in 2016, with 200 million copies in nearly 50 countries and 32 languages.
The latest catalog was printed at 40 million copies, said Holmström.
