Marilena Pirola, an emotional farewell to Sant’Anna: after 42 years of dedication she retires
After 42 years of service alongside the patients of the Sant’Anna hospital, Marilena Pirola, historic nursing coordinator of the Neuromotor Rehabilitation and Neurology department, says goodbye to her colleagues and friends as she retires. With a long journey that began in 1982 at the School of Nursing, Pirola dedicated an entire life to the care and support of patients, first as a nurse and, subsequently, as a coordinator. “We must never get involved in negativity and every day we must try to give the best of ourselves,” commented Pirola, recalling the motto that has accompanied her all these years.
Having joined at a very young age, Marilena has seen the healthcare world change profoundly, but not the essence of her profession. “Many things have changed – he recalls – but the importance of our work, dedicated to patient care, has not changed. This is why it is essential to always give your best.” From her first years in Surgery to her last years in Neuromotor Rehabilitation, Marilena represented a point of reference for her colleagues and an example of professionalism.
Manuela Soncin, director of the Dapss of Asst Lariana, the Corporate Management of Health and Socio-Health Professions, also recognized her contribution: “I thank Marilena for the work done and for her precious testimony. We live in times in which our profession seems to have lost appeal among young people and beyond. Despite the difficulties, nursing is and remains a fascinating and motivating profession.”
