After 37 Years Apart, Mother in Malang, Haru, Faints in Emotion Upon Reuniting with Her Children

Jakarta

A moment of emotion ensued when Suminah (81) met her son, Hernik Martika (65), after 37 years of separation. Suminah cried until she fainted when she met her daughter.

This emotional moment occurred at the Malang City Police Headquarters. Malang City Police Chief Kombes Budi Hermanto revealed, Hernik left the house when he was 17 years old.

The woman chose to work abroad and never returned to her family in Malang City. Upon returning from Malaysia, she instead returned to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the hometown of her ex-husband.

“37 years of no communication at all, lost contact with younger siblings and mother. Now they are reunited because of the strong friendship regardless of ethnicity, race, religion or skin color,” said Budi, reported by Antara detikJatimThursday (16/3/2023).

Budi said that when the police communicated with Hernik’s family, they were surprised and could not believe that Hernik was still alive.

“Because he has been considered missing for 37 years, his mother’s response is emotional and sad. This is a form of synergy between the community and the police, this is a humanitarian duty that we really have to do,” said Budi.
