Love can drive you crazy, and can even end up in court in some cases. In March 2023, Thomas* and Émilie* met on social media. It was love at first sight. For several months, they lived the perfect love. But this passion died out after a few months for Émilie following a violent argument in May 2023, during which Thomas insults him and pulls his hair. She then decides to end their relationship on July 1, 2023.

“I’m going to destroy you. I’m going to do you dirty.”

Mad with rage, Thomas then sent him numerous messages. I just wanted some explanations“I didn’t understand why she had left me,” the accused explained at the Évry-Courcouronnes criminal court.

Days go by, and her messages go unanswered. But that doesn’t stop Thomas. He keeps calling her. 316 callsincluding 240 on Snapchat, were counted by investigators. The accused persists, and sends her messages again that are increasingly violent. Insults, repeated death threats. Love turns into hate.

On July 13, 2023, the defendant sent yet another message to his ex-girlfriend, “I’m going to destroy you. I’m going to do something dirty to you,” accompaniedfrom a picture of a hammer sitting in the passenger seat of his car. A few minutes later, Thomas went to Emilie’s home in Draveil. He climbed over her gate and hit her shutters with a hammer. Locked inside her home with her 7-year-old son, Emilie called the police straight away. When they arrived, the police arrested Thomas.

6 months imprisonment

« I had lost control of myself. I recognize that I went strong on the harassment. I really regret what I did,” the accused pleaded at the bar of the court.

The victim, who was not present at the hearing, was examined by a psychiatrist who gave her a 4-day ITT (Total Incapacity to Work) certificate, indicating that she was suffering from: acute stress.

The court sentenced the defendant to6 months of imprisonment fitted with an electronic bracelet. He is prohibited from contacting or visiting the victim’s home for three years.
