After 30 years, Nintendo will release the first Fire Emblem game in English

Ever since it was released in 1990, the very first Fire Emblem game has only been available in Japanese. Now, however, Nintendo has announced plans to remedy it, and an English version is officially on the way.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is the name of the game, which will give role-playing game fans outside Japan the chance to experience the adventure of Prince Marth. All content from the original is in place, and Nintendo has also thrown in a couple of new features.

Players who fight through the Kingdom of Talys with the over 50 playable characters, get to rewind the game and try matches again. You can also increase the speed of enemies’ trips and easily create and return to storage points. You can see how it all works in the trailer at the top.

Mixed reception

The news that Fire Emblem will finally be released in English has been well received by fans of the series. Admittedly, the way Nintendo chooses to sell the game has not received as much praise.

When Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is released on December 4, it will only be available for a limited time. Exactly how long has Nintendo not said anything about, so those who want the game risk missing out on the chance if they wait too long.

The same tactic was also used when Nintendo released Super Mario 3D All Stars in limited edition for Switch in September. Even then, the decision received a good dose of criticism, but clearly it was not enough to convince Nintendo to drop time-limited availability.
