After 27 years, RTL 4 will be broadcasting the last Eigen Huis & Tuin for the time being

After almost thirty years, the curtain falls on Eigen Huis & Tuin. RTL 4 has to cut costs and decided to delete the residential and odd job program from the programming. The last regular broadcast will be shown on Saturday.

Eigen Huis & Tuin is “an expensive program to produce with forty interior and garden metamorphoses per year,” said RTL’s Director of Content Peter van der Vorst in April about the cancellation of the program. EditieNL will be extended to the weekend from September “with a limited investment”. This summer there are still compilation episodes of Eigen Huis & Tuin on the tube.

A merger of Nico Zwinkels’ DIY home program and the gardening show Flora Magazine by Rob Verlinden created Eigen Huis & Tuin in 1993. Zwinkels and Verlinden became well-known Dutch people thanks to the program, which was presented by Myrna Goosen, Irene Moors and Manuëla Kemp, among others. .

In 2004, the program itself underwent a metamorphosis when Zwinkels and Verlinden switched to SBS6. Eigen Huis & Tuin continued on RTL with handyman Thomas Verhoef and gardener Lodewijk Hoekstra. Tom Groot, thanks to his participation in Farmer Looking for Woman known as ‘Farmer Tom’, joined the team in 2015 and succeeded Hoekstra in 2016. The presentation of the ‘new’ Eigen Huis & Tuin was initially in the hands of Corine Boon. Quinty Trustfull and Froukje de Both followed later, since 2015 the housing and DIY program has been presented by Evelyn Struik.

Saturday’s Eigen Huis & Tuin broadcast may not be the very last. The program will not completely disappear, Van der Vorst promised in April. In the future, in a different form and at a lower frequency, it will be given a new place at RTL 4. It is not yet known when that is.
