Salerno back to Serie A after beating Pescara 3-0. This is the first time Salernitana has reached the highest platform Italian League since 23 years.
Visiting Pescara’s headquarters at the Adriatico Stadium, Monday (10/5/2021), Salernitana managed to add three points in the last week of Serie A. The visitors won 3-0 through goals from Andre Anderson, Tiago Casasola, and Gennaro Tutino, all of whom present in the second half.
Salernitana then closed the journey in Serie B 2020/2021 with 69 points in second place, four points behind Champion Empoli. Pescara in the following season must play in Serie C after finishing in 19th position with 32 points.
The certainty that Salernitana won a ticket to Serie A was also inseparable from Monza’s failure to get full points at home to Brescia. Cristian Brocchi’s team lost 0-2 and finished third with 64 points to further enter the promotional play-offs with Lecce, Venezia, Cittadella, Brescia and Chievo Verona.
Salernitana last appeared in Serie A in the 1998/1999 season. Gennaro Gattuso and Marco Di Vaio were easily unable to save the team and had to be relegated after finishing in 15th place out of 18 participants.
Francesco Caputo, who is now Sassuolo’s goal machine and recently made his way into the Italian national team, has also played at Salernitana in the 2009/2010 season.
Gattuso moved to AC Milan da Di Vaio to Parma the following season. Both of them then performed well and became one of the top players in Italy.
Parma and Crotone are confirmed to be replacements for Empoli and Salernitana. There is still one more in Serie A to be relegated and so far the red zone is occupied by Benevento.
