Although Renārs Veličko from Valmiera has been creating and performing music for 20 years, his first collection of songs with a symbolic title – “# 1” – has just been released.
Poems written by Imants Ziedonis, Jānis Adamsons, Dina Kārkliņa, Anna Buile, Guntars Račs and Renārs himself were used for the songs of the album “# 1”. “Along with my singer’s stage life, I also work in academic music. I am currently studying composition at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. I like to choose the poetry of different authors for my songs and I think that their contribution is sometimes bigger than mine, ”says the author himself, who has taken part in such groups as“ Emphase ”,“ Rudolf & Red Nosers ”and“ Cassettes ”. also performing as a solo artist.
The album includes ten songs that would fit well in the concerts of the ensemble “Saldās sejas”, warming them up. In addition to Veličko himself (voice, guitars, keys), Āris Pickainis (guitar), Rūdolfs Zagorskis and Mārtiņš Birnis (bass), Ivars Ozols (bass, double bass, keys), Kārlis Zagorskis, Daniēls Groza and Dāvids Dāvids , Undine Cercina and Madara Drulle (violin), Uldis Snikers (cello), Elīna Krastiņa (background vocals).
