BEAUTIFUL, THEY ARE.– After spending around 16 years in prison where he suffered mistreatment from his companions and the arrogance of the authorities, the theater came into his life as the reason why he had to continue living.

Jesus Moreno Aquinahua, 67 years old, is originally from Sinaloa, at eighteen he stepped into jail because he was accused of assaulting several women, reason enough to be locked up for most of his life.

Once inside, his life changed completely. From the very first he was beaten by his fellow prisoners and even though Jesus went to the jailers, was ignored.

In prison I always lived arrogance and humiliation, not to mention that there were no good places to sleep, terrible food and worst of all, the loss of your freedom, it is a sentence that I do not wish on anyone”, He commented.

However, despite having suffered what he considered: the worst moment of his life, it was an invitation to participate in a workshop, which would change his life completely. So, together with another colleague, they appeared first thing in the morning to find out what the call that they had read consisted of.

That’s when he met the drama teacher, Rosa Vila Font, one of his teachers who endowed him with talent in theatrical art, a talent that helped him write his monologues.

His experiences in prison gave him the inspiration to bring characters like “El loquito”, a homeless man who is happy despite his needs.

After serving his sentence, his reintegration into society was very difficult. Well, since no one came to greet him when he left, he knew that adapting was not going to be easy.

Jesus has had to deal with the lack of work because many of the employers he has applied to do not accept people with criminal records, so he has knocked on every door failing every attempt.

But he has not been the limit to stop writing his monologues, which now range from topics of how beautiful the city of Hermosillo is to talking about a pair of boots and an old hat that needs to be fixed.

Jesús is eager that his monologues can be presented in the prison where he was imprisoned, it would be the way to thank him for the training he received and the love he obtained for the theater.

Also, despite having suffered the beatings and abuse from their peers, He considered that many of the times they did that, it was because they were frustrated at not having someone to listen to them.

In prison there must be professionals who have the quality of listening without judging the prisoners, be they psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers. May they have the conviction and willingness to help each of the prisoners, as they did to me”, He commented.

In what solidifies his artistic projects, Jesus continues in search of a job to be able to survive, so if anyone is interested in being able to hire him, he can contact him at 6624632528.
