The terraces also opened on Leidseplein in Amsterdam at noon. Although the terraces are not yet completely full, the atmosphere is as usual. Liz and Merel were the first guests for café-restaurant Hoopman. “Liz’s birthday so of course we had to celebrate!” Says Merel. Congratulations can be heard from the terrace. “Congratulations sweetheart!” They are not afraid of infections. “If the bars had remained open, I would have just gone there,” said Merel.
On the Grote Markt in Breda, with almost only catering establishments, people walk in and out on Monday. The tables are at an appropriate distance from each other, with at most two chairs next to each other.

The last ‘work’ was also carried out in Scheveningen shortly before the reopenings. Staff was busy in many places with bucket of soapy water with which the tables were given a final cleaning. Shortly before the opening, owner Rebecca of Beachclub Twins addressed her dozens of employees. “Are we ready?” She asked. “And remember: keep smiling!”

Monday is not quite like it used to be. Visitors must reserve for places indoors, a maximum of thirty customers may enter the cafe. Just like everywhere else, the terraces must be kept at a distance of 1.5 meters. Reservations are not required there, although many cafe owners have chosen to do so. Similarly, Beachclub Twins. “We have 175 chairs on the terrace. First come, first served.”
Operators recently had to fit and measure to place the tables and chairs at the correct distance from each other. Many municipalities are cooperating and allow the terraces to be expanded, so that the food and beverage outlets have the space to receive people.

Hubert Bruls, chairman of the Security Council, said on Sunday that he was confident about the opening of the catering and museums on Whit Monday. According to him, people have shown in recent weeks that they can use the relaxed corona measures wisely. “I call on everyone to take into account and adhere to the basic rules that still apply, such as washing hands, keeping 1.5 meters away, avoiding crowds and staying home with complaints. This way we keep the coronavirus under control ”, says Bruls.
Here are the rules at a glance:
- Everyone should sit at a table
- Keep 1.5 meters away unless you are a household
- It is also necessary to keep a distance from the catering staff
- It is forbidden to stand on a terrace, only sitting is allowed
- Pay contactless
- Wash your hands thoroughly after a toilet visit
