AFTER 10 YEARS OF RECLUSION – Figueroa Agosto, from a micro-trafficker in Puerto Rico to a great negotiator

Although we know of José David Figueroa Agosto from the time he was arrested in 2010, in reality his story begins in the 90s in Puerto Rico, where he operated as one more micro-trafficker from the neighboring island.

Given his growth and the amount of drugs and money he moved on the streets of San Juan, he was arrested and taken to the Puerto Rican correctional facility known as El Oso Blanco, specifically in the section called Las Malvinas.

From that fearsome prison, the institutional and military influences that he had already achieved allowed him to escape in 1999.

Once a fugitive and actively sought by the US Federals, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), he fled to the Dominican Republic, where with another identity and appearance he settled and began his operations, in a couple of years to be among the most important drug lords. from the country.

With North American and national intelligence, the Dominican authorities followed his trail until he almost caught him in 2009 in his Arroyo Hondo mansion, from where he escaped.

Realizing the joint operation that had already been set up, he flees again to Puerto Rico, without imagining that this would lead to its end.

That escape could have occurred, also because of the relationships he had, because of the sumptuous mansion where he lived, appraised at that time by the authorities for more than 38 million pesos, had unknown corridors and accesses at that time.

After more than 10 years of operation in the country, Figueroa Agosto, was captured in 2010 in Puerto Rico, where his charges were extradited, since there were more strong accusations and evidence against him.

Along with him, Eddy Brito was also extradited, his right hand, and other members of the network.

He moved easily between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, until he was captured by the North American authorities in downtown San Juan.

It was not until 2012, when Figueroa Agosto, who was also known as Junior Capsule, pleaded guilty to leading a drug trafficking organization that imported drugs into Puerto Rico.

For 2017, local media in Puerto Rico reported that Figueroa Agosto had been sentenced to 30 years in prison by a federal judge in this state, Juan Pérez Giménez.

As he was sentenced in 2017, those seven years were reduced, so the negotiation started from 22 years of sentence, managing to lower 12, and finally serving ten.

The drug trafficker was released this Friday, after the agreement was fulfilled.

He was imprisoned at the Federal Correctional Institution Terre Haute, Indiana, as established by the registry of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).

The information was published by the newspaper Primera Hora, from Puerto Rico, where it is established that the confirmation of his freedom was obtained after one of the spokesmen for the federal Prosecutor’s Office on the Island, Nedy Carrillo, gave guidance on how to he could get information from the prisoner.
