African Swine Fever: Coldiretti, Immediate Interventions Needed, Companies on Their Knees

The situation regarding the spread of African swine fever (ASF) is increasingly worrying, Coldiretti underlines in reference to the new outbreaks confirmed in pig factories in Lombardy (provinces of Milan, Pavia), Piedmont (province of Novara) and Emilia Romagna (province of Piacenza).
For some time now, Coldiretti reiterates, we have been denouncing a situation of grave danger for our companies. We need to increase investments aimed at ensuring greater biosecurity in livestock farms. Interventions are necessary to prevent what is happening, namely the senseless slaughter of hundreds of healthy animals because an infected wild boar was found a few kilometers away. For this reason, Coldiretti continues, in the last month over 50 thousand farmers have mobilized to ask the Regions for extraordinary intervention plans for the containment of uncontrolled wild fauna, which today sees 2.3 million wild boars besieging the countryside and cities, with serious damage for farmers, citizens and motorists. We now need to intervene urgently with a detailed containment plan.
Interventions, concludes Coldiretti, which if not timely risk that the Psa spreads even more widely, bringing to its knees a key sector of our agri-food such as the pig sector, already suffering from compensation that has not yet arrived and with the need to have the resources necessary to cover the damages suffered with the health blocks.
