African conference against terrorism starts tomorrow in Abuja with the participation of Angola – Jornal OPaís

Angola will participate, from the 22nd to the 23rd of this month, in Abuja, Nigeria, in the African High-level Conference against Terrorism, Violence Against Communities and Unconstitutional Changes.

To this end, the Minister of Defense, João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade”, is in Abuja at the head of a delegation that includes the head of the Military Intelligence and Security Services, General João Pereira Massano, Angolan ambassadors to the African Union. and from Nigeria, Miguel César Bembe and José Bamóquina Zau, respectively, among other experts.

The high-level conference is divided into four panels and will be opened by the President of the Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Other interventions are expected from the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, the President of ECOWAS, Omar AlieuTouray, among others.

In the first panel of the conference, participants want to examine more deeply the evolving situation of terrorist threats in Africa, the emergence of groups with military capabilities and the deficit in the fight against terrorism.

The spread of terrorism, armed conflict, the fragility of borders and laws, socio-economic challenges and poor governance, could generate discussions about the design of strategies aimed at mitigating the impact of terrorism in Member States.

The second panel of the conference will look at countering terrorism and preventing extreme violence with a focus on the best regional and global counter-terrorism experiences that have enabled human rights, governance the law, promoting gender equality and sustainable development.

This panel can recommend the fight against terrorism, violent extremism, organized crime and the role of traditional and religious leaders in a wider development agenda that includes poverty alleviation, education and youth empowerment.

The third and fourth panels recommend strengthening regional capabilities and international cooperation in combating terrorism and unconstitutional changes to governments.

To do this, practical, fast and priority methods will be defined to provide a general response to terrorism, extremism, organized crime and unconstitutional changes.

Transnational information sharing, without violating the protection of sovereignty, will be another subject of consensus among the multilateral parties at the conference.
