They named the fossil Phiomicetus anubis and it was three meters long and weighed about 600 kilograms.
“This ancient animal can also be categorized as a predator at the top of the food chain at that time.
“From the results of research on fossilized skull fragments, this ancient animal is a type of primitive whale in Africa.
“ Phiomicetus anubis is key to the discovery of new whale species and important research for African and Egyptian paleontology,” said Abdullah Gohar, researcher at the Center for Vertebrate Paleontology at Mansoura University.
