“African American Man Dies After Ex-Marine Applies Prohibited Maneuver on New York Subway: Investigation Ongoing”

Jordan Neely, un african american man 30 years old, died after being strangled by an ex-marinewhich applied a prohibited maneuveron the New York subway. Despite his actions, the marine was released without charge, after being questioned, while the investigation continues.

The event took place on Monday afternoon, in a carriage on Line F, which was traveling north of the city. According to witnesses, Neely, known for being a Michael Jackson impersonator, was acting in a “hostile and erratic manner,” for which the 24-year-old former Marine – whose identity was not disclosed- He applied a choke hold, known as a “chokehold”.

This maneuver, which has been federally prohibited for police departments since the George Floyd case, in 2021, he left the man unconscious on the subway floor.

Everything was captured by the cameras of a witness, who spread the video on social networks. The images allow you to see the man dressed in a white shirt screaming and kicking to try to free himself while the ex-marine suffocated him with his arms, and two other subjects held his arms and legs.

When the formation stopped at the Broadway-Lafayette station, an emergency team tried to revive the victim, but to no avail.

Neely was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. While, the marine was detained and questioned, but released without charge, according to the New York police.

“The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing,” a police spokesman told The Washington Post.

For his part, the spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Tim Minton, assured that there were no transit employees in the subway car at the time of the strangulation, so he could not provide more information about what happened.

This Wednesday, a group of protesters gathered at the Broadway-Lafayette station, where the murder occurred, to protest Neely’s death.

When New York Governor Kathy Hochul was asked if the former Marine should be criminally charged, she said she had just seen the video and that he needed to find out “if the state has a role” in the investigation.

“There are consequences for the behavior,” he added, though it was not immediately clear if he was referring to Neely or the ex-Marine who applied the chokehold.
