She is one of Africa’s best-known voices, not only for her music, which won four Grammy Awards, but also for her commitment, especially to women’s rights. Internationally recognized singer and committed citizen, Angélique Kidjo talks about her role as godmother of the Africa2020 Season, the purpose of this extraordinary event, as well as her future musical projects.
Initially scheduled from June to December 2020, and postponed from early December 2020 to mid-July 2021, the Africa2020 season is a pan-African and multidisciplinary project, focused on innovation in the arts, sciences, technologies, entrepreneurship and the economy.
Dedicated to the 54 States of the African continent, this program, which aims to make contemporary Africa better known to the French, and in particular to schoolchildren, will take place throughout the metropolitan and overseas territory.
The program illustrates the wealth of talent on the continent. “It is not only Africa which takes aid, it is Africa which evolves and which advances”, estimates Angélique Kidjo.
