Africa exceeds 10,000 cases with 487 deaths

The number of deaths caused by covid-19 in Africa has risen to 487 in the last hours in a universe of more than 10,075 cases registered in 52 countries, according to the most recent update of the pandemic data in that continent.

According to the bulletin of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (CDC Africa), in the last 24 hours the number of registered deaths has increased from 414 to 487, with confirmed infections going from 9,189 to 10,075.

CDC Africa also recorded 913 patients recovered after infection.

With the announcement, on Monday, of the first confirmed case of infection with the new coronavirus in the Seychelles, 52 countries and territories in Africa are now affected by the covid-19 pandemic.

North Africa remains the region most affected by the disease, with 4,485 cases, 362 deaths and 437 recovered patients.

In southern Africa, there are 1790 registered cases of the disease, which has already caused 17 deaths, with 57 patients recovering from the infection.

In West Africa, there are 1992 infections, 57 deaths and 348 recovered patients.

South Africa is the country with the most confirmed cases of the disease (1,682), registering 12 deaths and 45 recovered patients.

Algeria (1,423 cases and 173 deaths), Egypt (1,322 cases and 85 deaths) and Morocco (1,120 cases and 80 deaths) are other countries with significant numbers.

In at least a dozen countries, the number of confirmed cases is in the hundreds.

So far, no cases have been announced in Comoros, the Sahrawi Republic and Lesotho.

São Tomé and Príncipe has four confirmed cases.

Guinea-Bissau is the Portuguese-speaking African country with the most registered cases, after confirming on Monday 33 people with infections with the new coronavirus.

Angola, which already counts two deaths, has since Monday registered two more confirmed cases of the disease, now totaling 16.

Mozambique maintains 10 confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus.

Cape Verde totals seven cases of infection since the beginning of the pandemic, including one dead.

In Equatorial Guinea, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, 16 positive cases of infection with the new coronavirus are confirmed.

In the context of measures to combat the pandemic, the CDC Africa counts on Monday 43 countries with fully closed borders, seven with suspended air connections, three with entry and exit restrictions and two with entry restrictions for citizens of countries of risk.
