ISLAMABAD, KOMPAS.TV – Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said he had no choice but to leave Kabul when the Afghan capital was attacked by the Taliban.
In an interview with BBC, Thursday (12/30/2021), he said that an adviser only gave him a few minutes to decide to leave Kabul.
In this interview, he also denied widespread allegations that he left Afghanistan with stolen money.
After being told by his national security adviser Hamdullah Mohib that his personal protection forces were unable to defend him, Ghani said he decided to leave.

According to Ghani, he wasn’t even sure where he was going, even after being in the helicopter and getting ready to take off.
Ghani did not discuss Afghanistan’s rapid military collapse in the weeks leading up to the Taliban takeover, but he blamed the agreement the United States had signed with the Taliban in 2020 for the collapse of his government.
The treaty sets the conditions for the final withdrawal of remaining US and NATO troops ending America’s longest war.
The deal also said it would grant the release of 5,000 Taliban detainees, which Ghani said strengthened the rebel forces.
Ghani’s sudden and secret departure on August 15 threw the city off the hook.
