Afghanistan picks up suspected campus terror attack | Abroad

Afghanistan has arrested the prime suspect in an attack on the university in the capital, Kabul earlier this month. Vice President Amrullah Saleh said on Facebook that the man arrested is called Adil and that he is responsible for planning the terrorist action who claimed at least 22 lives.

According to Saleh, Adil had been recruited by the Haqqani Network. This is a gang founded by warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani (1939-2018), who became an important ally of the Taliban. Shortly after the attack, Saleh and other top Afghan officials had already placed responsibility for the attack on the Taliban, even though it was claimed by the Islamic State (IS).

At least 22 people were killed in early November and dozens more were injured when three gunmen stormed the campus of Kabul University. The gunmen were engaged in a shootout with Afghan elite troops for hours. The three attackers in military uniform were eventually shot. They shot at students trying to flee, one witness said.
