Afghanistan, Kabul | Taliban: – The war is over

The Taliban have declared war on Afghanistan over. At the airport there is complete chaos. Many will flee the country.

Thousands have gathered at the airport in Kabul in an attempt to get out of the country, while American soldiers, according to witnesses, have fired into the air.

– I feel very insecure here. They fire shots into the air, a witness told AFP.

Both Afghans and foreign nationals have gathered at the airport.

On Sunday, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani acknowledged that the Taliban had won. He made the statement after fleeing the country. The escape was necessary to prevent bloodshed, he said.

Declared the Afghanistan war as over

The Taliban captured the presidential palace in Kabul on Sunday and has declared that the war in Afghanistan is over, reports the news agency Reuters Monday.

– This is a great day for the Afghan people and the mujahedin. They are now seeing the fruits of their efforts and what they have been sacrificing for 20 years, Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem told Al Jazeera TV.

– Thanks to God, the war is over the country, it was said.

The Taliban say they will rename the country the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as the country was last called by the Taliban.

Several ex-employees can have their asylum application processed

On Monday, the message came that the Norwegian government is allowing ex-employees in Afghanistan who did not apply for asylum in 2015 to apply again.

– In connection with the processing of cases according to the 2015 instructions, ten people were rejected for compelling reasons. It is not planned to process these applications again, says Minister of Justice Monica Mæland (H) in an email to NTB on Monday morning.

– On the other hand, there are groups that were not covered by the 2015 instruction. There are also people who have been local employees who for various reasons chose not to apply in connection with the application scheme in 2015. These groups can now be treated in light of the serious situation, she continues.

It has provoked strong reactions that Afghan ex-employees who have assisted the Norwegian forces have had their applications for residence rejected. The government has repeatedly this summer refused to take a new assessment of these cases, which has been requested by several opposition parties.

66 percent of the respondents in a survey that Kantar has conducted for Defense Forum , believes that Norway should grant a residence permit to all Afghans who have worked for Norway in Afghanistan.
