“This whole situation threatens the wheat season during the coming winter“warned the emergency director of the United Nations Fund for Agriculture (FAO), Rein Paulsen, who recalled that agriculture employs 45% of the Afghan workforce and generates livelihoods for 80% of the population, from direct or indirect way.
Wheat is an essential food in the national diet and it provides half the daily calories of half of the 39 million Afghans.
