“In order to quell the violence and restrict the movement of the Taliban during the night hours, a night of command is being announced in 31 provinces across the country,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Only in the provinces of Kabul, Punjab and Nangarham is a curfew not announced.
The curfew will run from 10 pm to 4 pm, Deputy Interior Minister Ahmad Zia Zia told reporters.
The security situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated significantly in recent months.
Since the start of the final phase of the withdrawal of foreign troops in early May, Taliban insurgents have occupied large areas outside major cities, as well as many strategically important border crossings.
