Eating and going out for a drink in a restaurant in the city center and near any monuments is usually an expensive affair. This rule applies everywhere in the world, Prague is no exception.

Everyone knows the most tourist-exposed places in Prague – Prague Castle, Old Town Square and the famous Wenceslas Square. Although it is possible to find a business in these places where the prices are still favorable despite their location, these are only exceptions.

In most restaurants, which also have an interesting view, you usually won’t find anything under 400 crowns. Beer for 130 crowns or more is such a color here nowadays.

That is why, on the way to Wenceslas Square, we were attracted by the sign with the offer at the restaurant of the Hotel Ambassador Zlatá Husa. This is a luxurious five-star hotel, the reviews of which on the Internet are quite decent.

Now, the Aperol Spritz drink, popular even among Czechs, has appeared here in a discount event. For ninety-nine crowns. At the time, several visitors were enjoying it in the garden. Specifically, we counted two tables. Men and women. The exception was the third occupied table, made up entirely of male staff, here the beer was slurping.

They don’t order anything else, they smiled in the restaurant

We contacted the restaurant by phone because we were interested in whether this price, unprecedented for the center of Prague for an alcoholic drink from Italy, is long-term or temporary. Kamil Macek confirmed to us that this is only a limited time offer.

However, he added that the discount campaign did not bring the desired effect.

“People order this one single item. They don’t order anything but Aperol anymore, it doesn’t have the effect we thought it would have. Well, you know, the lure…,” he told us.

According to him, the restaurant’s clientele is diverse. These are not only hotel guests, but mainly people from the outside.

Other prices here are classically “tourist” and confirm that we are in the heart of the metropolis. A small sparkling Mattonka here costs 90, the same as Coca-Cola, Fanta or Sprite. Evian water even 120.

All soups also cost 120, and main courses here range from 320 to 750 crowns. For example, a grilled pork tenderloin on herbs with sautéed beans with bacon and onion marmalade costs 370 crowns.
