BMW has added the most affordable version of the iX1 crossover to its model range, which will cost less than 48,000 euros.
The electric crossover BMW iX1 has been in circulation since the end of 2022, but until now it could only be purchased in the all-wheel drive version iX1 xDrive30, which costs 55,000 euros in Germany. Less than a year later, the front-wheel drive version iX1 eDrive20 was added to the selection, which will be as much as 7,000 euros cheaper.
The eDrive20 is equipped with the same powertrain as the Mini Countryman Electric. It is a front-mounted electric motor with a power of 150 kW, which provides acceleration to a hundred in 8.6 seconds – 3 seconds slower than the xDrive30. Also, the maximum speed of 170 km/h is 10 km/h less than that of the all-wheel drive model, but the price pleases and allows it to better compete with the similarly equipped Volkswagen ID.4 (150 kW; 46,335 euros).
The range of the eDrive20 with the built-in 64.78 kWh battery in both versions is shown by the manufacturer to be 430-475 km, while the capabilities of the xDrive30 are slightly more modest: 417-440 km.
The eDrive20 battery is charged with up to 11 kW AC as standard. The full charging process (0-100 percent) takes 6.5 hours, but the 22 kW charger included in the extra charge helps shorten it to 3-4 hours. The car also supports fast charging with alternating current (up to 130 kW), so the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 29 minutes.
Visually, the eDrive20 is distinguished from the all-wheel drive xDrive30 by the radiator grille: for the former, it is made of small diamonds, for the latter, vertical bars are used.
BMW’s new application helps to improve the charging process, which thermally prepares the battery before fast charging – guided by route instructions and navigation system, automatically ensuring temperature control before charging.
